The objective of this course is to introduce fundamental ideas and techniques of modern natural language processing (NLP). The focus will be on methods for extracting information from text, with the purpose of creating useful applications, like search engines. The students will learn relevant linguistic terminology and theory, but the approach will be mostly practical, with an emphasis on implementation and problem-solving.

Prerequisites: CSCI 136 or permission from instructor.
